Peel 4×4 Club – Sovereign Park & Wilbinga Dunes

With a soft convoy beginning at the BP Baldivis Northbound, we made our way to the meeting point at Two Rocks Marina, where we met up with the remaining people joining us on the trip.
We had two visitors come along with us – Bob & Monica in their Ford Ranger, and Kim in her Triton.

Before the briefing, some of us enjoyed breakfast at the nearby Oven Door Bakery & Chapters Boathouse Café. My daughter had actually bought me a Vanilla Slice, which I later thoroughly enjoyed with lunch.

After leaving Two Rocks Marina, we headed off in a convoy of six vehicles, and were airing down our tyres within five minutes.
We made our way through the maze of tracks before arriving at Sovereign Park. Here, we all managed to have a bit of fun with our vehicles; however, my bit of fun turned out to be a bit embarrassing a little later!
I had attempted to climb up a big dune and was so close to getting to the top, but just didn’t quite make it. After another two attempts, I decided to call it quits in order to avoid doing any unnecessary damage.
A few other vehicles had a go, with only a modified 100 Series finally being able to make it – albeit with a VERY big run up and plenty of power!

A little while later, while leaving Sovereign Park, I discovered that I had not engaged my Centre Diff Lock – therefore, I had only been getting drive to one axle!!!

With the playtime at Sovereign Park all done and dusted, we started making our way through the tracks in the dunes, having a bit of fun along the way. There were some soft sandy sections, a few hills, some rocky sections, and also some nice angles and descents.

We found a nice little spot with ocean views, where we stopped for lunch and had a chat. Thankfully, my Vanilla Slice had survived the morning and was put to good use!
After lunch, we continued on for a bit, finding a few hills to test our skills on, including one where we had to go down in order to go back up and across the track to where we wanted to go.

We then had one more climb, taking us to the top of a large dune with some amazing views. From there, it was back onto firmer ground towards Indian Ocean Drive, where we proceeded to air our tyres back up.

It was only right at the end of airing up, that I noticed a large swarm of bees. Luckily, no one got stung!

Following the air up process, a couple of members headed south back home, while the remainder headed ten minutes north for a debrief at Moore River Brewery.

This is a lovely little spot by the river, and it looks like they may be building an outdoor patio area, which should make it an even nicer place to stop.

Once we were all re-hydrated, it was time to end the day and make our way home.
