FAWDCWA – Sandy Cape to Green Head Dune (March 2026)
This coastal track follows a winding 25 km stretch of dunes and beach, offering spectacular views and great off-road driving. The track can be slow and technical, with soft sand in places, patches of limestone cap, undulating terrain, and some scratchy branchy sections.
The route is suitable for four-wheel drives and well-prepared AWD’s.
Vehicle & Safety Requirements
Sand flags are mandatory.
Full recovery gear required.
The track is tight – no trailers or caravans permitted.
All participants must be self-sufficient
Saturday
Participants to make their own way to Jurien Bay.
Meet at Jurien Bay Jetty – 10:00 am for a safety and travel briefing.
Departure at 11:00 am.
Convoy will travel approximately 10 km north to Sandy Cape Recreation Park.
Air down tyres before entering the northern dunes track.
Travel approximately 15 km along the track.
Expect around 4 hours on the track, allowing for stops and potential recoveries.
Camp will be set up at one of several free bush camping locations outside the Sandy Cape Recreation Park boundary.
This is a bush camp – no facilities; all participants must be fully self-sufficient.
Sunday
A relaxed day at camp. There’s plenty to do, including:
Fishing
Swimming
Beachcombing
Exploring the dunes
Relaxing around camp
Optional trip to a nearby dune area to further explore the region.
Monday
Break camp early.
Departure around 10:30 am.
Continue north for approximately 10 km.
Allow up to 3 hours travel time, including stops and recoveries.
Arrive in Green Head around 1:30 pm, where the trip will conclude, all participant will make their own way home.
